Welcome to ZaoZe Cafe & Market, a delightful hidden gem nestled in the heart of Brunswick, Maine. This vibrant cafe isn’t just a place to grab a bite; it's a culinary experience that beautifully intertwines comfort with zestful Asian flavors. With its unique concept as both a cafe and a market, ZaoZe stands out by offering fresh, locally sourced ingredients, gregarious hospitality, and a tantalizing menu that is sure to please every palate.

The atmosphere at ZaoZe is family-friendly yet exudes an air of casual elegance, making it the perfect spot for a quick lunch or an inviting afternoon snack. The decor is bright and welcoming, and during warmer months, you can enjoy your meal al fresco, reveling in the scenery of Brunswick. The intimate setting accommodates about eight tables on a first-come, first-served basis, offering a cozy dining experience infused with communal warmth.

What truly sets ZaoZe apart is its menu, which boasts a fascinating array of pan-Asian offerings, from modern interpretations of classic dim sum to a selection of scrumptious small plates. Regulars rave about the steamed pork buns, filled with a savory mix that strikes a perfect balance without the excessive sweetness typically found in char siu. Diners are also drawn to the mouthwatering gyoza, fried cauliflower, and the delightful shrimp with noodles—each dish an explosion of flavor meant to delight your senses.

As Erin Arneson wonderfully shares, "Everything they make is exquisite," and this holds true across the board. The baked goods—a category not to be overlooked—are described as 'unreal', each one meticulously crafted to offer a sweet ending to your meal. Whether you're sitting here with your children or indulging yourself on a quiet afternoon, the friendly and efficient service ensures that your experience will always be exceptional.

Moreover, ZaoZe Cafe & Market takes pride in its unique market section, which features Asian grocery staples, fresh produce from its impressive aquaponic greenhouse, and housemade delights such as sambals and kimchi. If you're a culinary enthusiast looking to spice things up at home, the market is a treasure trove. Julia Gooding Warner highlights their excellent selection of specialty Asian groceries like Momofuku ramen noodles and intriguing whisky barrel-aged fish oil, making it a perfect stop to enrich your pantry.

For those who seek more than just a place to eat, ZaoZe Cafe & Market is a true community-oriented establishment. As noted by Theresa St. John, the cafe is always clean, and the staff is friendly, enhancing the overall experience. It’s evident that this cafe is cherished not just for its delicious food, but also for the warmth and connection it fosters among diners.

In conclusion, if you find yourself in Brunswick, ZaoZe Cafe & Market is an unmissable spot that invites you to savor an exquisite fusion of flavors, enjoy quality produce, and engage with the local community. Do yourself a favor and make your way to this delightful cafe—you won’t be disappointed!

This is my favorite restaurant in the midcoast. Ever since my baby was 6 months old we would come grab a snack here. It is super kid friendly but not still "fancy" for people who don't have kids. Everything they make is exquisite. The baked goods are unreal. Always fast. Always clean. Always friendly.

Stopped here for take out during lunch on a Thursday and ordered several à la carte small dishes. The food was delicious, offering a modern interpretation of classic dim sum and similar items. These are not the familiar Cantonese small plates, but delicious in their own right. The steamed pork but was very good, with a tasty savory filling (not as sweet as char siu). The shu mai skewer was great with an extra kick of fresh ginger. The chive pancakes had a perfect balance between crispy and chewy. And the filling in the empanada was first rate. The meal was a nice value, and the service was friendly and fast. The stop here was well worth it. But make sure to get there early. I was there right at noon and they were already selling out of some dim sum items.

Wonderful place; the café & market offers Asian grocery staples, fresh produce from their huge aquaponic greenhouse, house-made sauces, sambals and kimchi, as well as grab and go snacks. The dessert se;ection was tempting. Some food was a little spicy - not too much. You can sit outside in better weather. The concept of aquaponic gardening was very interesting to me. Cafe and market very clean, staff was helpful and friendly.

Wow, what a gem of the area! Fantastic pan Asian offerings. Especially enjoyed the shrimp with noodles, gyoza, fried cauliflower. Great options for taking specialty Asian groceries home, too. They’ve got my favorite Momofuku ‘fancy’ ramen noodles, frozen dumplings, noodles, wine, and intriguing whisky barrel aged fish oil. There are 8 tables, first come first serve, sometimes random hours so you may want to check they’re open. Good for takeout and baked items, too!

A wonderful find. Excellent small dish Asian food served beautifully.. We had the dumplings and the cauliflower dish. Both were excellent.. the coconut macaroon cookies were an excellent end to our meal. You can’t go wrong at this place, and you can pick up lots of interesting things to use in your own Asian cooking..

We found this place by coincident walking around in the neighborhoods in New Brunswick, so we stopped by. We were towards the end of their day, and they were out of a few things, so we did get the ordered a few things that they still had and shared them. The food felt fresh and tasty. We enjoyed sitting inside and the energy in the place. It was a great find.
